Sacramento Uncovered: Avocado Toast, Local Stays, and Memorable Experiences

Fresh off my whirlwind trip to Sacramento, California and I have been dying to tell you all about it. If you’ve ever needed a getaway to experience a fun city with beautiful architecture, a vibrant food scene and of course that beautiful sunshine - Sacramento is the place to be! Come along while I fill you in on how to spend your day in Sacramento!

ARRIVING IN SACRAMENTO

When I first arrived I was ready to check in to my first Airbnb, a cozy cottage run by Brittany who was very welcoming. It was so nice to start my vacation in this cute guest house, very light and airy and aesthetic for a photographer with a penchant for cute things like myself! Located on a quiet street, complete with a full kitchen and great wifi (something important to me as I work on the go) this adorable place is perfect for the solo traveler or a couple.

My favourite place was the coziest outdoor area where I enjoyed my morning coffee and breakfast. Speaking of which…

AVOCADO TOAST OR BUST

My absolute favourite breakfast is Avocado Toast, so of course when I landed in California, land of the avocado, I was on a mission to find the absolute best one in Sacramento! Lucky for me I found my way to Vibe Health Bar and kicked off my day with a bang. They have a great full menu with lots of healthy breakfast and lunch options but let’s be real - you know what I went for. Their Avocado Toast has a delicious twist with their signature Vibe nutty pesto, then topped with mixed greens, avocado, red pepper flakes & pistachios atop sprouted wheat toast. They even offer a gluten-free version for my celiac pals out there. I paired it with a Nitro Cold Brew and I was ready to check in to my first Airbnb!

PLACES TO STAY

I had the pleasure of staying at Oliamoda Guest House for my trip, and when I arrived I was immediately in vacation mode. This Airbnb is truly an Oasis tucked away in a backyard paradise. Olia was such a lovely, welcoming host and has an amazing eye for detail. From the light and airy décor carried throughout each room to the real showstopper - the epic backyard complete with a gorgeous pool perfect for floating away the day. I loved cozying up by the outdoor fireplace in the evenings to really maximize my outdoor time. I felt so at home during my stay, I cannot recommend staying at Olia’s stunning Oliamoda Guest House enough!

WHERE TO GO

When I managed to tear myself away from my new home-away-from-home, I ventured out to Old Town Sacramento and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The Gold-Rush era buildings and cobblestone streets had me transported to an earlier time. Located in the historic riverfront district, you can learn about the pioneer era at a number of local museums, grab some souvenirs to bring back home, hop on a riverboat tour or like I did, just zip around and take it all in on a Lime Scooter! Lime Scooters were readily accessible throughout the area and made getting around not just easy but legitimately really fun as well. I felt like a kid again!

IT’S ALWAYS TACO TIME

After a full day of sightseeing you will have worked up an appetite! If you’ve been following along with me for a while you know I love tacos & I love guac, so naturally when I came across East Patio Méxicano Restaurant I was thrilled. It had such a cool atmosphere and the food was as authentically Mexican as you can find north of the border - it was hard to pick just one thing to eat! I settled on the Shrimp Tacos and they were so fresh and absolutely delicious.

SHOP LOCAL

We’ve got our taco fix, so let’s talk shopping. You know at Ellenfinds we pride ourselves on supporting local business, and that extends to when we travel! When I met Olia, the owner of our beautiful Airbnb I discovered she also was a designer! She was kind enough to let me try on some of her stunning designs and I felt like a movie star. We collaborated on a photoshoot for some glamorous fun. Be sure to check out the multitalented Olia on instagram @oliamoda & shop her clothing at oliamoda.com! Coming home from a trip with unique pieces added to your closet is the icing on the cake.
